Just at the airport waiting to get on my flight, so thought I should get this post in now.
First stop on the list is Toronto and then on to the states, I think. Yesterday was my last day in London, so did all those things like breakfast, pack and eat some more. Lucky I managed to get some clothes washed and fresh socks. Not sure if I have enough Clothes for the month but we will just have to see.
A big shout of out to apple for fixing my phone yesterday evening. I really needed an unlocked phone that works, and they basically saved me a load of money. There’s a first for everything.
Looking at my schedule for the next 20 something days it’s going to be hard to keep these post updated at 10am each day, so it could be any time really. I’m determined to to let it slip but we will just have to see.
– good bye London, see ya soon –– brunch’n, yesterday at borough market –– I’m not going to miss this, the underground –
Right I’m sorry but today’s post is just three pictures of a pigeon. I wish I had more to write about but prepping for this trip is taking up all my time, I literally stepped out the office to get an amazon parcel. When I saw a pigeon and took the chance to chase it around this mini park. I think I managed to pull it off and get the shot.
Sorry for the short post, but I’m just really busy at the moment. I promise tomorrow will be a good one.
– a pigeon taking flight –– where’s the pigeon going? Who knows –– she’s away –
the day were failing at post 3 photos each day was nearly here. ive had a pretty long day and a few technical problems a long the way but nothing that can be sorted and the only picture Ive taken today was of two people playing the guitar on the street. I literally just took one photo and I’ve been starring at a computer screen all day. its been one of those days where you genially just want to watch some crappy tv and sleep.
Well thats no happening now, im doing the true brit thing, Ive put the kettle on and im about to smash out four photos, screw doing just three im going to post four, just becuase I can. my thinking is, over this weekend I took so many sick photos and have a few cool stories and that I should post them and give you guys some content, i can do what I like.
At the weekend, Amy’s mum was baking some cakes, all of them were really tastey, but one went a bit wrong, it didnt rise or something. she was about to throw it away and start again, but that saying waste not want not popped up, so I though I would give this whole bake off thing a go and see if I could make something out of it. a biscuit cutter and some walnut sprinkles later and you have a finished bake off worthy cake.
please see below, ill leave the guessing up to you as to which one is my cake and which one Amys mum made. just a little bit of a guessing game for ya.
On a different topic, that picture I took today of those two people with the guitar, none of it is in focus, its not even straight and you cant even see the whole guitar. im not really sure if any of that matters. its street photography. but I would like to know what anyone think, is there a certain level of photography that goes into or can a perfect photo from the street just be right place right time. i think ive got away with it and can all it photography.
this post is a bit jumpy and all over the place, but so am I tonight.
– this was the only photo I took today –– was this my attempt at saving the cake –– or was this my attempt at saving the cake –– the chappels garden –
After one stollen package and then one being delivered to the wrong flat, my new flash gun has arrived, its one of those ones that sits in the hot shoe on top of my camera, so naturally the photos tonight are of Amy and me, testing out the flash after dinner. its only the Amazon basic Flash, Ive been looking at getting on for a while now and the other day amazon had a sale on and were selling them for £20 with prime, so I thought it was time to see what these things are like.
and first things first, it was so easy to set this up, i have no idea about the technical side of it, but focusing in low light is so easy, im not sure if the flash, kind of works as an auto focus or what, up all the stills came out sharp. What is also really good about the flash is that it draws all the other light, so even in “well lite” area’s you get a much better image, for £20 this has got to be on the cheapest camera essentials you can get, I cant wait to take more photos and really see what its like.
Tonight was just about going out after dinner and seeing if it works and what we can do with it, Ive already started thinking of some cool things I can do. I really like the idea of shooting some fast movement stuff, like skateboards, boris bikes or even the occasional pet. for now though you’ll just have to check out these photos I got of Amy at 9:30 last night, she’s a good egg that one.
Heres the snaps, let me know what you think or if you have any tips for using the Flash, I want to up my low light photo game.
Thanks again amy for being my model!
– amy getting ready for her big moment –– “come on josh bake off is on” –– swag’d out #HypeBeast –
Back by the sea this weekend with loads of amy family for a little shin dig, so should be a good little bank holiday. nothing major really happening apart from loads of dog walking and a few beers. nothing beats an August Bank holiday, especially by the sea.
On a walk saturday we bumped into a mini car club drive thing down by Cromer beach, it reminded me how sick those little cars are, and now I kind of want an Old mini, I have no idea about cars but they are amazing. who needs a rolls royce, when you could have an old school mini.
Anyway, theres a load of prep that needs to be done before all of Amy’s family arrives so ill keep this short and sweet. I got a bunch of shallots to cut, so heres my photos from yesterday. enjoy.
(sorry for the spelling mistakes)
– this is Dexter –– I want to drive in the mini club –– this is a rock on the beach –
Not sure what to write about today, im literally struggling to keep my eyes open. its really early on Saturday morning, im two coffees and a large macdonalds coke down and still going. but it is a good day becuase im on my way to Norfolk for the Bank holiday weekend where im just going to eat and eat and eat.
My idea of the photos today was to take them on my journey to the station, see if I could make the one stop on the tube more exciting, it actually worked, I left a bit earlier so I could take photos but Im pretty happy with the result.
the good thing about doing this whole project is that its helping to me figure out what I like taking photos of, if its landscape or people or adventure. I think its hard to figure that out, with everything today like instagram and facebook, its so easy to take a good photo, but its hard to figure out what exactly you want to shoot. 5 months ago, I didnt really have an idea, I couldnt decide, I knew I like to take photos but I couldnt work out what my favourite thing to shoot was. I would just take hunderds of photos each day and see where I ended up. but not I really think about what im going to take a photo of, and ive realised that its people. I love taking photos of people. they are a hard thing to photograph, because a lot of people don’t want to have the photo taken, so its all about being quick and not drawing to much attention. A good tip that i’ve found works, is to set the shot up, wait for someone to walk into it and then take the snap, that way they think they’ve just walked into your shot, rather than you snapping them on purpose. simple and effective.
anyway heres my snaps from this morning!
(and sorry for any spelling mistakes )
– i have no idea who they are –– liverpool street this morning –liverpool street, really early this morning –
because of the whole decorating the flat this weekend your going to have to see more pictures of the work, I would love to show a picture from the streets of East London but thats not going to happen.
In the flat theres this big window ledge that sticks out like a foot by 6ft long, my plan is to cover the whole thing in plants, I want to have a mini rainforest! so every chance I get i’m buy more and more plants, im not sure if its becoming some sort of un health obsession, but plants actually make a flat better.
I have no idea about plants, I just like green ones, about 5 months ago I started a Catcus farm but that seems to be slow work, nothing has really grown. So I don’t think that is going to take off any time soon. Im not giving up on the whole little mexico cactus farm in my flat, just need some other plants so I can work on the rain forest, does anyone know what are the best plants that grow indoors? any tips would be welcome.
Anyway I came back last night and was talking to amy and she said that I should try and take some flat lay photos, Ive never tried it before and its actually pretty good, my idea was to take a flat lay and then see if I could take different angles of the same subjects and see what turns out better. this was this vinyl record in the corner of the shot thats got this girl on it, I really wanted to concentrate on her, sometimes have her in focus, some times not. The thing I enjoy about shooting faces and people, it gives the person looking at the photo something to think about, try and guess there emotion of mood. Im not sure if you get that from a illustrated cartoon on the front of a Whipped Cream and other Delights vinyl but its still adds something to these photos.
Theres definitely room for improvement, I want to try flat lay photos with other objects that are more flat instead of plants. Basically plants aren’t flat, so it makes it hard to get the correct focus point, in a way though that has added something extra to these photos as a one time thing, now I’ve done this style though I really do want to try it with complete flat objects and see what the results are like.
Its quite I good Idea for my blog, on a day that not much is happening, I could take a couple photos of some flat lay’s and still manage to keep this interesting.
Anyways heres my snaps from last night.
– my attempted at a flat lay –– there she is –– I’m a fan of this photo and the colours –
yesterday was one of those day’s spent prepping for up and coming shoots, arranging kit and trying to get as much kit as possible in to peli cases, just like a big puzzle. So for that reason, my photos from yesterday aren’t that exciting.
One thing Ive realised about this little project I’m doing is, what you have to do is always take photos, even on days when you know what your going to write about, those are the days where if you see a cool angle or nice lighting, take a snap on your iphone, because they have become so handy to me on days like today when im struggling to put anything amazing together, Im just quickly scrolling through my phone for bangers I might of taken last week. thats basically whats happened today, but I don’t want it to be a complete throw back to old photos from previous days. so “m going to throw in some photos I took yesterday as well.
Enjoy these snaps, I’ve uploaded four just because I want to keep you guys happy.
– ignore the tissue next to the lens I forgot to move it –– taken yesterday, on my route to work –– the view through a 85mm prime – as you can see it looks burry without a camera –– the only bit of blue sky I saw yesterday, but I got to play with camera’s so its nothing to complain about –
A Few days I talked about colour street photography and how I though it was pretty hard, and that I wanted to give it a try. well last night I finished work and the sun was literally in the right place, so I headed out to brick lane and just walked around and took a few snaps before it got to dark.
I love brick lane you can walk down it and see so many weird things, but when you actually stop and look around you see 10 x the amount of weird things. Like a guy sitting down to eat food in a restaurant with face paint on but thats want adds to the atmosphere and make the place so perfect to photograph.
I think with street photography its about being in the right place at the right time, and with brick lane its literally always the right place and the right time. theres always some thing going on there thats photogenic, you’ve just got to find it.
On a different note, a few people have told me that I should get prints made of some of my best photos, would anyone else be interested in buying some? what do you all think? is any one out there interested?
– this guy knows how to eat dinner –– my attempt at street photography in colour –– she was walking around like she owned the street, she got style – I think people say the correct term is Vogueing –
When I first started this how photo project thing, I was thinking Im going to carry my 5d around with me everywhere shoot raw photos on a 24-105mm lens and probably a 1×1 light panel just for good measure. turns out that so of the time that can actually do more harm than good, a lot of the time if I pull out my 5d it gets to much attention, and people freeze up, don’t want there picture take and think i’m some kind of pap.
thats when the Iphone comes in handly. If like me you have a point and shoot and you put the lens in water, so now it take about 2 hours to start up properly and your in a bit of a limbo at the moment, waiting for your next camera, then I dont think you can go wrong with the iphone its the perfect camera for a blog. If you are really up against it for time, you can take photos, edit them and post them all from a phone. Im trying not todo that at the moment because I want to learn more about Adobe software, but if I have no time then the iphone is a life saver.
Its not about how many Mega Pixels you have its about what you do with them!
check out my favourite iphone snaps from the past week.
– Bethnal Green, no idea what road but it kind of reminds me of the “old days” –– a train seat –– the light when I leave work at the moment is pretty helpful –
